The First Pyramid

The First Pyramid title above a resting dog with the Step Pyramid in the distance.

At Saqqara, the Step Pyramid of Djoser rises through a warm veil of dust, its broad terraces gradually emerging from the desert. Seen from afar, the monument almost dissolves into the horizon; closer views reveal its layered form above broken stone and open sand. A glimpse of a statue through a narrow opening adds a more intimate moment to the vast surroundings. The muted colours and soft light give these scenes a stillness that invites a slower look at this early chapter of Egyptian pyramid building.
